Mental Exercises for Senior Patients

FIT MIND’S BENEFITS EVERYONE, INCLUDING FAMILY MEMBERS

Dementia changes relationships, it doesn’t end them.

Fit Minds’ vision is to give unprecedented support to seniors to be all they can be. We provide group and individual customized mental exercises to improve quality of life and enable meaningful relationships with family and friends.

At Fit Minds, our leadership has personally embarked on the journey of having a loved one diagnosed with dementia.

Feeling uncomfortable or unsure of how to proceed is a natural reaction to a loved one’s dementia diagnosis, but your relationship can still be meaningful. You can still enjoy your relationship, even as it changes through the progress of the disease.

Is Fit Minds right for your loved one?

Fit Minds benefits everyone.

Fit Minds has a ten-year track record of effectively supporting seniors with a range of cognitive abilities ~ from independent seniors to those challenged with mild, moderate, and advanced dementia.

Fit Minds programs exercise five key areas of the brain and leverage what research tells us about the brain’s capacity to build cognitive resilience and create new neuron pathways.

Volumes of research support the impact of cognitive stimulation.

Why Seek Fit Minds Personal Trainer for the Mind for Your Loved One?

Think of Fit Minds as a personal trainer for your loved one’s mind. If you are noticing your loved one losing things more often, forgetting appointments or even if he/she has a recent dementia diagnosis, cognitive stimulation through mental exercises is an effective evidence-based intervention.

What’s A Typical Session Like?

A college-educated certified Fit Minds coach comes to your home or your senior living community and spends 45 minutes with your loved one, leading them in customized, interesting content that exercises five key areas of cognition:

  1. Language and Music
  2. Visual/Spatial Orientation
  3. Memory
  4. Critical Thinking
  5. Computation

What happens at a Group Session?

Group content is designed for independent seniors or those in assisted living or memory care. The one-hour presentation delivers mental exercises integrated with information on brain health and aging well. Check to see if a Senior Living Community near you offers Fit Minds.

What happens at a 1-on-1 Private Sessions – Personal Trainer for the Mind ™?

The Fit Minds Personal Trainer for the Mind ™ program is a privately delivered, personalized, cognitive stimulation program for your senior, regardless of ability. Each lesson plan is customized to respond to their interests and abilities as they progress through the program.

The Fit Minds algorithm creates the lesson plan, which is printed and prepared by the Certified Fit Minds Coach for completion by the senior during their session. Monthly assessment reports on cognition and engagement are provided to you and to any wellness staff you choose.

It’s so much more than mental exercises. Through the program, Fit Mind’s Certified Coaches develop deep, personal relationships with your loved one and your family!

Comfort and Support For You

Relationships with your entire family will be tested after a loved one has been diagnosed with dementia. Decisions about your loved one’s care, health and living arrangements can be overwhelming as you simultaneously acknowledge your loved one is changing.

Fit Minds offers a free Family Support email program. Once a week, over an eight-week period, you will receive an email with timely information about brain health, dementia, family dynamics, coping and more. Families tell us the content is brief but robust, helping family members navigate the path ahead.

Monthly Assessment Reports for Family Members

The Fit Minds algorithm creates the lesson plan. These mental exercises are then printed and prepared by the Certified Fit Minds Coach for completion by the senior during their session. Monthly assessment reports on cognition and engagement are provided to you and to any wellness staff you choose.

What happens if you don’t stimulate your brain?

Research confirms that our brain starts shrinking at age 30. Research further validates the age old saying “use it or lose it.” Cognitive stimulation through mental exercises is an evidence-based intervention used around the world to support brain health. Fit Minds programming supports more than 25% of senior living communities in Canada and we made our footprint in the US in 2017.

How do you help your loved one dealing with a recent dementia diagnosis?

Understanding your loved one’s fears and anxieties is important. When an individual is dealing with dementia, their self-confidence is negatively affected. Your loved one may not be able to accept that things are changing because they are afraid of the reaction of family and friends. Our certified coaches understand and our one-on-one mental stimulation and meaningful engagement helps! Our coaches remind seniors of their capabilities as they mentally engage in interesting content that exercises their minds.

Our coaches create meaningful, authentic relationships with seniors.

What does Fit Minds do for those with Alzheimer’s and Dementia?

Our three unique offerings effectively support a range of cognitive abilities; from independent seniors to those challenged with mild, moderate, and advanced dementia. Studies have shown positive impact of mental exercises on people with Alzheimer’s and other dementia diagnoses.
